MOVIE - THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

I have watched a movie; the title is The Pursuit of Happyness. This is one of great movies I have ever watched because it has good moral values.

This is a biography movie about a man, Chris Gardner who lives with his wife, Linda, and their 5-year-old son, Christopher. Chris is a salesman. He sells bone density scanner to doctors. One day, he can’t sell even one scanner. It causes he can’t pay the house-rent and the other loan. It makes his wife, who is only an employee in a Laundromat, upset. She decides to move to New York City and leaves Chris. At first, she wants to take Christopher with her, too, but Chris doesn’t allow her.

Chris is sad, but he doesn’t want to give up. He wants to find a better job because he still has Christopher. Then, he meets a man who has a luxurious car. He asks the man what the man’s job is, and the man says that he is a stockbroker. That makes Chris wants to be a stockbroker, too.

Chris decides to work at Dean Witter Reynolds Company as a stockbroker, but he is not paid. He has to follow six-month-training and the best trainee can get a job there. During the days he works, he starts to be broke. He has to move from his rent-house. He is homeless. Every day, he must search for a place to sleep with his son. Sometimes, they sleep at public places or a halfway house.

Knowing his condition, it makes him works hard and he becomes the best trainee. Then, Chris gets a job as a stockbroker at that company. Several years later, he can own a company, Gardner Rich and becomes a billionaire.

MORAL VALUE:

• Don't give up to reaching your dream because there is nothing impossible in this life. Like Gardner says in this movie, "Don't let anyone say that you can't do it". Just go reach your dream although there are so many challenges forward. We can see Gardner's struggle to pursue his happiness. He is left by his wife, he loses his car, his house, but he still believes he can be a great father for his son and he trust he can be a stockbroker. As a result, he really gets it. He gets his happiness.

What are you going to do in the future?

          After I finish my study in the college and I get S1, I want to continue to S2, so that I can be better in English and make my opportunity to work abroad wider.

          Work abroad is my big dream. I hope to get a job in a big company where I can use English in my daily activities. It is so wonderful for me to have foreign partners in one company.

          That’s my plan A. I have plan B, too. After I have gotten S2, I want to be a lecturer.

          While working, I also will save my money. I will not forget my parents and my families in my hometown. I want to make them happy and proud of me.

          There’s one more thing that I really want to do. I’d love to travel around the world. I want to visit many beautiful countries that I haven’t visited before, like in America, Europe, Asia, and others. I’d like to learn their cultures and languages. Of course, I will not forget to show them the cultures of Indonesia. I’ll tell them that Indonesia is a beautiful country.

A LETTER TO EDITOR

          Life in my neighborhood needs to be improved. There are 2 main problems at the intersection near my house. For one thing, there are not enough police officers at the intersection, even there is no one, sometimes. That’s why; many drivers ignore the traffic lights. It’s really dangerous for all people around, including the drivers themselves. Although there hasn’t happened any accidents yet, but it’s important to keep the safety. Another problem is there are too many dark streets at night. It makes us afraid to walk on the street. We even can’t see clearly what we step on. Besides, it’s really possible for some bad people to do crime.

          So, what should we do about it? I think there should be more police officers at the intersection, so that all street users can obey the traffic rules well. We also need more street lights, so we can see the streets clearly at night.

God and The Barber

            People may usually search negative things of life and blame God, but actually, God loves all of us but sometimes we don’t recognize it. So, we have to be sure that what God has given is the best for us.

Two Seeds

            After I heard the story about two seeds, I got inspiration that if we want to do something, don’t just think about the risks. Just face it, do what we can do, and we will get the best. So, I really want to be brave to speak in front of the class. I want to practice a lot and no more fear at all. I will do my best and I want to be better, especially in English.

Broken Water Jar

            Nobody is perfect in this world. Everybody must have weaknesses. So, I don’t want to be shy anymore. I really want to improve my English. Although there are some weaknesses, I want to keep trying. I don’t want to be afraid anymore. If I want to say something, I will say it, because I am sure if there is weakness, of course there is strength.
